The station first started broadcasting in 1970 – on Christmas Day!
Some of the famous names who began their careers with HBS include the BBC’s Ken Bruce and Charles Nove and GMTV’s Hollywood Correspondent Ross King.
HBS broadcasts to 7 hospitals in the Glasgow and Paisley area.
The organisation currently has over 80 volunteers taking on many various roles.
HBS is an award-winning station and has been officially recognised by Radio Clyde for its wide-ranging contribution to Scottish broadcasting.
One of the most unusual fundraising activities the station has been involved in was a sponsored abseil down the side of Gartnavel General Hospital – where some participants wore only their underwear! (no, we have no idea why either!)
The most popular songs requested for our Open Line programmes have included Frank Sinatra’s My Way, Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline, Dolly Parton’s Nine To Five and Dean Martin’s That’s Amore.
At least ten couples have met at HBS and married, including our latest in July 2010!
2010 is HBS’s 40th year of broadcasting!
